Abstract
The aim was to carry out the nursing process for an elderly man using phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. This was a qualitative case study in which data were collected through medical record analysis and the application of NANDA-I (North American Nursing Diagnosis Association International), NIC (Nursing Interventions Classification), and NOC (Nursing Outcomes Classification) taxonomies, based on Wanda de Aguiar Horta’s Theory of Basic Human Needs. The nursing diagnoses proposed were impaired sexual function, ineffective health self-management, ineffective overweight self-management, excessive sedentary behavior, and anxiety. The proposed interventions included sexual counseling, health education, and the encouragement of self-responsibility. It was evident that erectile dysfunction acts as a systemic marker and impacts the elderly man's self-esteem and emotional security, requiring comprehensive management beyond mere pharmacological support with phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. It is concluded that the systematization of care enabled the correlation of the psychobiological and psychosocial spheres affected by aging and chronic conditions.
