Care for the elderly through the Unified Health System: gerontological reflections

Abstract

The research underscores the necessity of a multidimensional approach to healthcare for the elderly, encompassing not only physical aspects but also social and emotional factors that impact the well-being of this population group. The analysis reveals important advances, such as the expansion of Primary Care and the strengthening of the Family Health Strategy, while also highlighting significant obstacles, including the overload of health services, the shortage of professionals trained in geriatrics, and the discontinuity of care between different levels of care.
